Architects have submitted for planning a design for a new grandstand at
the Curragh Racecourse in Kildare, Ireland. This is part of an overall
masterplan that involves moving the road and the construction of a new
hotel and entrance approach to the grandstand.
The new grandstand
will cater for up to 50,000 people over 5 levels and has been designed
to allow for the maximum number of spectators in the optimum position
at the finishing line. Primary public approach is from the east with the
oval end acting as a 'signifer' for the racecourse and also terminates
the access vista. The oval is the centrepiece, positioned at the finishing
line and completing the build up of the grandstand and linked hotel with
crowd over the final furlong.
