Macro environmental planning. EPR have masterplanned this 67 hectare site to provide in excess of 100,000m2 of accommodation. Once an army barracks the site is set amongst historic forest land and is environmentally extremely sensitive. Supported by the local planning authority, Potsdam, and by the State of Bradenburg, the plan is now moving through the last stages of the formal planning process.

Conceived to create a centre of ecological excellence, the plan required extensive research to enable it to respond to, preserve and extend the existing ecological structure of the site whilst maintaining the balance of commercial and long term flexibility required of a masterplan. Within the plan, guidelines were drawn up to ensure that the infrastructure reflected German ecological thinking, and to encourage the development of environmentally aware buildings.
