The completed project
realised the Prudentials' aim of re-modelling the existing 35,000m2 Grade
II listed Alfred Waterhouse buildings and integrating these with a new
build development of some 40,000m2 to provide a modern flexible business
environment, fit for the 21st Century.
Work in the listed
buildings fell into 2 categories; that within Grade 11 listed buildings,
with few significant interior features and work in the extensive flagship
building fronting High Holborn, where the entire interior was listed.
Working closely with
English Heritage EPR affected a transformation of the entire listed building
element providing full airconditioning, electrical and IT services complete
with raised floors even within the listed interiors, many of which were
deconstructed and then reconstructed incorporating all the essential services.
The project won the
City of London Heritage award in 1993.
