Falling
within the Lambeth Palace Conservation Area combined with proximity to
the Grade I listed Lambeth Palace, the Grade II listed St Mary's Church,
and the Thames riverside make this a high profile and sensitive site.
However,
the form and style of the proposals found immediate favour with The Royal
Fine Art Commission, English Heritage, and the Local Planning Authority,
leading to a successful planning application.
The
distinctive form of the development not only successfully addressed urban
design issues but, importantly, maximised the frontage to the Thames and
particularly overlooking the Houses of Parliament, creating an added value
unique to the site.
