This project involved the refurbishment and extension of the Friends Provident Headquarters building in Dorking. Part of a sensitive conservation area. Having decided against rebuilding, Friends Provident needed to rationalise elements of the existing complex, and to gut and refurbish the building in its entirety, whilst also adding full air conditioning and raised floors. As the work had to be carried out while the staff of some 600 were still working in the building, considerable planning and organisation was required. Sections of the workforce were moved to temporary accommodation while each phase of the operation was carried out. Client: Friends Provident
