This
commission was awarded following a limited architectural competition.
It involved the design of the building, space planning, interior
design and furniture selection.
The highly sculptured external form - a modern design which
gained the full support of the local planning authority -
enclosed simple and efficient internal planning. The offices,
covering 129,120 sq ft (12,000 sq m), were constructed over
two levels of parking, providing space for 250 cars.
Reduced to the minimum components, the curtain walls contrast
strongly with the aluminium-clad service towers. Within the
building, there are private dinning rooms, a 250-seat restaurant,
a coffee lounge, a gymnasium, a conference chamber and a substantial
and independently serviced computer suite.
A model of the building was displayed in the Royal Academy.
