Envisioning the buildings of the future
14 May 2021

EPR sustainability lead Alex Potter recently took part in ‘Envisioning the Future of Buildings’, a virtual AJ Summit research workshop debating the future trends of building design.
During the event, attendees gave their opinions on ten statements about life in 2030 relating to three key themes — building typology, building management and sustainability. Participants wanted design to help connect people to nature rather than provide more high-tech solutions and were positive about bringing more green into cities via green roofs and façades. They also discussed the barriers faced by architecture in achieving a circular economy, an expected increase in demand for flexible design and whether future buildings will be designed for drones and flying cars.
