Tudor Lea

Buckinghamshire

The refurbishment and redesign of an existing mock-Tudor-style private residence and ancillary buildings including a boathouse, gymnasium, swimming pool, garages and staff accommodation. The main body of the house is expressed as two two-storey wings of accommodation with a recessed centre.

The main component of the house, the living area, is located on a piano nobile supported by a continuous colonnade of brick piers on granite plinths which encircle the house to create a loggia.

The materials palette is composed of Portland stone, granite, slate and brick, with oak cladding on the southern elevation, terraces and boathouse drawing reference from the building’s riverside setting. We relocated the ancillary buildings to act as an acoustic buffer to the surrounding traffic noise.
